Firefly Plantation Bequia

Welcome

Built on the foundations of a West Indian 18th century estate homestead, Firefly Plantation is a refreshing contrast to so many of today’s commercial and touristy hotels. Although a sister hotel to Firefly Mustique, Firefly Plantation in Bequia is very different, having it’s own unique character and charm but still with the same friendly staff, excellent food, cocktails and attentive service.

When you stay at Firefly Plantation you are staying on a 30 acre working plantation with hillsides of orchards producing oranges, grapefruit, bananas, breadfruit, guava, Bequia plums, mangos and all variety of wonderful and exotic crops.

Four beautifully appointed guest rooms are located in a separate building within the grounds providing magnificent views across the plantation, coconut groves and bay. On the edge of the plantation we also offer the “Plantation Cottage”. This has recently been completely remodelled and has two bedrooms, both with King size beds and two bathrooms. (the second bedroom can be also configured with bunk beds and/or a single bed if required). There is a comfortable lounge and kitchenette should you wish to cater for yourselves a balcony overlooking the plantation and easy access to the hotel swimming pool.

A large fresh water swimming pool invites you to spend lazy afternoons sunning yourself whilst sipping Firefly’s famous rum punch or read and relax in a hammock under the trees.

The plantation also offers a hard surface tennis court but be warned that you might share it with the odd grazing cow, escaped from a nearby pasture! Hard hats are also recommended against falling coconuts!

The Island of Bequia

Bequia has many beautiful white sand beaches, our own beach, Spring Bay is just a short stroll though the coconut plantation. Industry Beach in the next bay, is a pleasant walk or a few minutes by car.

Bequia is a charming, small, old fashioned Caribbean island of volcanic origin. Only six square miles, its hills run from an elevation of over 800 feet down to fertile valleys at sea level. Although not a tropical rain forest, its foliage grows lushly most of the year.

Yachts from all over the world come to Admiralty Bay, considered one of the safest harbours in the Grenadines. Port Elizabeth is the main town, located at the harbour, with a main street which extends several blocks. You will find a variety of shops, banks, grocery stores, bars and restaurants. There is lots to do on Bequia, a wide variety of restaurants and bars, "jump ups" (dances), model boat building museums, sightseeing, snorkelling, diving and great hiking. Day trips to other islands can also easily be arranged by our staff.

Many Caribbean nationals come to Bequia to regain a sense of the Caribbean as it used to be. There are no high-rises, no golf courses, no chrome or glitter. They still build boats by hand, and live the simple Caribbean life. Coming to Bequia is more like an adventure than just a vacation. It is the island one dreams of finding, with its lovely beaches, rolling hills, beautiful flowers, and friendly people. The weather is great, averaging in the 80's all year.

Truthful Asides

While the rooms are only a short walk from the main building there are many steep steps and we are not suitable for the elderly or infirmed.

The plantation is a working plantation and will always be a work in progress.
All our staff are friendly and courteous and delighted to show and explain to you about their work.

The Plantation is home to many animals, some working, some domestic pets, but all are friendly and love to meet guests!

Although the day time temperatures are hot and sunny, the plantation is set to catch the evening trade winds which frequently bring a short night time shower, this is what keeps the flora and fauna tropical green year-round, and gives the valley it’s name - Spring!
As the dining room is completely open on one side we recommend you bring a shawl for those odd cool evenings.

We do not have televisions! We want you to escape from life’s worries and cares.
Read, day dream, gaze at the stars, you will find it amazingly liberating! We can arrange in room massage or yoga instruction on request.

Testimonials

Having returned from the caribbean and sadly back to work , both Angie and I wanted to drop you a line to thank you so very much.
Once again Elizabeth thank you so very much and when we return to Bequia (hopefully in the not too distant future) we will definitely be dropping by to dine and relive that wonderful evening.

With Best Regards
Andrew and Angela Gould

I just wanted to let you know that my wife Joanne and I had a wonderful vacation at the Bequia Firefly Plantation. The resort was great and the island is beautiful but the service that we received from Rodney and Donovan was outstanding. We were greeted by them using our first names and offering us a delicious drink as we arrived on the property. They couldn't have been more friendly, kind, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating to us and all the other guests.
